Helping Brisbane’s clubs improve their water and energy efficiency

The Resilient Clubs Support Program is an initiative of Brisbane City Council, delivered in partnership with Brisbane Sustainability Agency.

The program is helping Brisbane clubs who lease facilities from Council become more energy and water efficient to reduce operational costs, future-proofing them for the benefit of the Brisbane community.

Playing fields are traditionally large resource consumers, particularly of water, so as part of the program clubs undergo a water and energy efficiency audit, which looks at things like taps, light fittings and irrigation systems.

To date, we’ve enabled 32 community clubs to install solar, saving a total of 800 megawatt hours of energy and an estimated $200,000 in energy costs annually. In the last financial year, the program has achieved a number of great outcomes:

  • Audits conducted at more than 90 clubs
  • Water and energy works delivered at 40 sites
  • Solar panels installed at 32 clubs
  • Data and energy monitoring systems installed at around 50 sites.

During this financial year, the program will be installing up to 500kW across twenty clubs, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 215 cars off the road.
