One of the biggest Clean Up Australia Day events ever
Brisbane Sustainability Agency (BSA) continued our 13-year-long partnership with Brisbane City Council to deliver this year’s Clean Up Australia Day event in Brisbane.
Clean Up Australia Day invites schools, businesses, and community members to participate in a litter collection at various dates throughout the end of February and the start of March.
Starting over 30 years ago, Clean Up Australia Day has grown into the nation’s largest environmental event, with over 20 million Australians stepping up over the years.
This year, we saw 101 schools, 231 community groups, and 98 businesses roll up their sleeves, grab a bag and take action to pick up litter and pollution in Brisbane’s green spaces and waterways.
“Clean Up Australia Day is a highlight on Brisbane Sustainability Agency’s annual calendar. Not only does our team join in on the action for the business Clean Up Day, but we also have the privilege of being the official delivery partner, coordinating hundreds of Clean Ups for the entire Brisbane region.
Every year, Clean Up Australia Day serves as a reminder of the power of community in action and this year was no exception,” said Tracy Melenewycz, BSA CEO.
Over 28,000 volunteers joined the Clean Up this year in Brisbane, equating to an impressive 57,000 hours of volunteer work.
Once again, Brisbane’s Clean Up Australia Day was made possible by our wonderful sponsors, Cleanaway and Veolia, who provided 50 skip bins to ensure the success of the community day, collecting rubbish from multiple locations across the city.
