Record number of nominations and votes in the WasteSMART Brisbane Awards

The finalists have been chosen and public voting for the People’s Choice WasteSMART Award has wrapped up for the 2020 WasteSMART Brisbane Awards, delivered by Brisbane Sustainability Agency in partnership with Brisbane City Council.

Finalists include individuals, community groups, schools, kindergartens and businesses making incredible efforts to reduce waste and improve education and practice of recycling, composting and other ‘waste smart’ activities. 

The awards attracted a record number of nominations, with 195 received across seven categories. The ‘People’s Choice’ award category, which was voted on by the public, received a record 4,177 votes. 

Judging is currently underway. There are seven award categories and 11 awards with a prize pool worth more than $4000. The Award categories are: 

  • IKEA WasteSMART Schools Award 
  • The University of Queensland Brisbane’s WasteSMART Champions Award 
  • Containers for Change Queensland WasteSMART Community Award 
  • Cleanaway People’s Choice WasteSMART Award 
  • WasteSMART Business Award 
  • WasteSMART Kindy Award 
  • Councillor’s WasteSMART Choice Award 

Winners for the above categories will be announced in a ceremony at City Hall hosted by the Lord Mayor on November 25.
