Healthy Cities, Healthy Schools Program

A partnership between Brisbane Sustainability Agency and Bupa.

Bringing nature, wellbeing and sustainability to school life.

Reconnect your students with the natural world and support their mental, physical, and environmental wellbeing through this practical, engaging, and age appropriate pilot program.

Spanning Prep to High School, the Healthy Cities, Healthy Schools Program empowers schools to integrate nature based learning, sensory engagement, outdoor exploration and movement, and sustainable thinking into everyday practice. Delivered in six flexible modules over term three, the program supports calm classrooms and outdoor activities, student creativity, and real world environmental understanding.

Why Nature, Why Now?

Students thrive when they’re connected to the outdoors. This program uses mindfulness walks, creative art making, active sustainability games, and student led pledges to deepen students’ appreciation for the natural world and their role in protecting it.

From nature based art to team eco challenges and quiet reflection in school gardens, the program helps students deepen their understanding of natural environments, and strengthen the connection between nature and health.

It’s about more than green spaces – it’s about growing healthy minds and a healthier planet.

Program Objectives

  • Highlight the link between planetary health and our wellbeing
  • Promote increased understanding of the biodiversity of school based green spaces
  • Support student understanding and leadership in sustainability
