Sustainable BNE Festival 2025 Wrap-Up: Brisbane Comes Together for People and Planet

Brisbane’s Roma Street Parkland came alive on Sunday 25 May for the Sustainable BNE Festival 2025. A free family-friendly celebration of community and sustainability proudly presented by Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Sustainability Agency.

The festival welcomed more than 11,000 attendees throughout the day, all eager to explore how we can build a more sustainable Brisbane together. From interactive workshops to market stalls, live music, nature play and electric vehicle displays, the festival offered something for everyone. Families embraced the day’s positive energy, with kids weaving through garden trails and sustainability-themed craft stations, while adults sampled local food and picked up practical tips for low-waste living.

One of the event highlights was the Bupa Healthy Cities Zone, where visitors could enjoy a free coffee in an edible coffee cup, participate in a silent disco and unwind with yoga and a mindful colouring wall. The Move For Less Zone, featuring EVs and e-bikes, was also a major drawcard offering festivalgoers a hands-on look at the future of sustainable transport.

The 7News Live on the Green mainstage ran all day with music and the Live Interactive Bluey Experience, while experts took to the Green Home Living stage to share advice on composting, DIY cleaning products and a thrifting.

Local vendors and community groups showcased eco-products, services, and initiatives from upcycled fashion to zero-waste cleaning supplies.

In total, the festival diverted approximately 95% of its waste from landfill, demonstrating sustainable event practices in action. Free water refill stations, a mug library, and bans on plastic bags and plastic straws, and ballons contributed to a low-waste event footprint.

The 2025 Sustainable BNE Festival proved that when it comes to sustainability, Brisbane is ready to lead the way. With strong attendance, engaged audiences, and a focus on sustainable living, the festival brought the city together to celebrate what’s possible when we act with purpose.
