Brisbane Sustainability Agency Celebrated at 2025 AILA QLD Awards

Brisbane Sustainability Agency has been recognised at the 2025 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Queensland Awards, taking home top honours for its contribution to green infrastructure and land management in Brisbane’s west.

Announced at a gala event in Brisbane on Thursday 12 June, the annual awards celebrated the best in landscape architecture across the state, from play spaces and civic landscapes to education precincts and regional master plans. Out of more than 50 entries, projects that demonstrated excellence in climate responsiveness, cultural respect and community outcomes were recognised by this year’s jury.

Brisbane Sustainability Agency proudly took home three awards for its work on Archerfield Wetlands Parkland and District Park, key components of the broader Oxley Creek Transformation:

  • Award of Excellence – Land Management
  • Award of Excellence – Parks and Open Space
  • Landscape Architecture Award – Play Spaces

The project exemplifies how ecological restoration, access to nature and community involvement can come together to create resilient, biodiverse public spaces in an urban setting.

“These achievements are a testament to Brisbane Sustainability Agency’s vision, collaboration, and dedication to delivering transformative projects,” said Tracy Melenewycz, CEO of Brisbane Sustainability Agency.

“More than design accolades, they reflect Brisbane Sustainability Agency’s ongoing commitment to ecological restoration, the creation of inclusive public spaces, and the delivery of landscapes that support both people and the planet.”

Jury Chair David Hatherly praised this year’s entrants for their clarity, creativity and commitment to designing with Country, climate and community.

“Landscape architecture is playing a critical role in connecting policy, infrastructure and biodiversity with how people experience their everyday environments,” he said.

Award winners from Queensland will now progress to the 2025 AILA National Landscape Architecture Awards, to be held in Nipaluna/Hobart on Tuesday 21 October 2025.
