About the Festival

The Sustainable BNE Festival is Brisbane’s leading sustainability event, connecting residents with simple, everyday actions that make a real difference. First launched as Green Heart Fair in 2009, the festival has grown into a vibrant city wide celebration of sustainability, community and innovation.

Delivered by Brisbane Sustainability Agency for Brisbane City Council, the festival brings together local experts, community organisations and ethical businesses who are working to create a more sustainable Brisbane. The festival is designed to be welcoming and accessible, whether you are just starting your sustainability journey or looking to take the next step.

What is the Sustainable BNE Festival?
The Sustainable BNE Festival is Brisbane’s premier sustainable living event, designed to inspire and empower residents to live more sustainably while having fun. This free, family friendly festival takes place annually at Roma Street Parkland and showcases the latest in eco living, conservation and community action.
The festival brings together Brisbane’s leading sustainability organisations, local artisans, community groups, food vendors, conservationists and eco experts in one vibrant space. Attendees can explore hands on workshops, informative talks, sustainable market stalls and enjoy a full day of live entertainment, kids’ activities and delicious food.
Whether you are a green thumb, a curious beginner, or simply looking for a great day out, the Sustainable BNE Festival offers practical, fun and inspiring ways to live more sustainably in Brisbane.

9:00am-3:00pm, Sunday 24 May 2026.
Is there an entry fee?
No, the Sustainable BNE Festival is a free community event. This includes entry, activities and workshops. Some premium ticketed experiences are available to book and may include a fee. Ticketed experience bookings are essential.
How do I find out what is on at the Festival?
In the lead up to the Festival, follow our Facebook and Instagram pages and check back here regularly to find out what is on. On the day, program signs will be displayed throughout the Festival grounds.
Is the Festival all ages?
Yes, the festival is an all ages event with something for everyone.
What’s the best way to get to the Festival?
The easiest way to get to Roma Street Parkland is by walking, cycling or using public transport. To plan your journey, visit the Translink website or call 13 12 30.
Where can I park?
There is limited parking available at Roma Street Parkland Car Park.
Will there be ATM facilities?
Yes, there will be an ATM located near the food trucks.
Is the Festival accessible?
Yes. The festival site includes accessible paths, ramps, footpaths, amenities and viewing areas to support inclusive participation. Accessible parking for holders of a Disability Parking Permit is also available until capacity is reached.
Will there be Auslan or interpreter support?
Yes, an Auslan interpreter will be present throughout the day. For additional assistance, please visit the Information Booth.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes, you are welcome to BYO food and non alcoholic beverages. A range of food trucks will also be available on site. Please note the event is alcohol free.
Will there be water available?
Yes, hydration stations will be available across the site for free water refills. Please bring a reusable water bottle as single use plastic water bottles are not sold at the festival.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Roma Street Parkland. Dogs must remain on a lead at all times, not be from Brisbane City Council’s identified dangerous dog breeds, and owners must clean up after them.
Dog hydration stations will be available at the Information Tent and the Preserve Every Drop zone.
What if I need First Aid?
First Aid officers are located at the Information Tent. Please refer to the site map for exact locations.

– A hat and sunscreen (sunscreen is also available at the Information Marquee)

What does sustainability look like at the Festival?
Sustainability is embedded in how the festival is delivered. The event prioritises waste reduction, recycling and composting, supported by clear signage and dedicated waste stations.
Reusable systems and low waste practices are encouraged across the site, with the goal of moving towards a waste free festival and setting a strong example for responsible event delivery in Brisbane.
You can help by bringing reusables, choosing low waste options and following onsite signage.
