About the Brisbane Carbon Challenge

The Brisbane Carbon Challenge is supporting Brisbane residents to understand and take action to reduce their household carbon footprint and save on related household bills. 

As part of the Challenge, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Sustainability Agency are seeking up to 20 Champion Households to demonstrate actions to reduce their carbon emissions by 50 per cent and share their experiences with the wider Brisbane community over a 12-month period.

Champion Households will receive information, tools and incentives valued at up to $4500 and one-on-one coaching to help them reduce their household carbon footprint. Incentives include a Home Energy Monitoring System, where practical, and other goods and services tailored to the household’s needs and circumstances. These could include:

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for selection as a Champion Household, you will need to live in the Brisbane local government area. Applicants will also need to be over 18 and authorised to submit an application on behalf of their household.

What’s involved?

Champion Households will be supported over a 12-month period by CitySmart and will receive information, tools, a Home Energy Monitoring System, where practical, and tailored incentives valued at up to $4500 to help them achieve a 50 per cent reduction in their carbon emissions.

How to apply

Reduce your household carbon emissions and bills by signing up to be a Champion Household.

Applications to become a Champion Household are open now and will close at midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) Sunday, 10 January 2021.

There are two steps to complete an application.

First, use the Brisbane Carbon Challenge Calculator to estimate your household carbon footprint and take note of your results – if completing the calculator on your phone, it may be helpful to take a screenshot and save the image for easy reference.

Once you’ve estimated your footprint, complete and submit the online application form.
